Northwest Kansas Library System is a ten-county, multi-type library system headquartered in Norton, Kansas. Now, we are not like the typical library systems in large urban areas. We are “a library for libraries” or a support for the rural libraries of Northwest Kansas. We have no governing power over the libraries that we serve.
Currently we are seeking applications for the position of Continuing Education and Library Development Consultant. This position will work/report directly with/to the System Director. The Consultant will direct and coordinate the continuing education program of NorthWest Kansas Library System, which will support member librarians in developing skills and talents in librarianship. Furthermore, the Consultant will also be responsible for advising librarians, trustees, school administrators, city officials, etc. on all aspects of library service, policy and organization.
Applicants must possess communication skills both written and oral, which includes listening, organizational skills with the ability to prioritize daily schedules, public relations skills with the ability to communicate with all manner of personalities and education levels, consulting skills with the ability to say “I don’t know, but I will find out” or “I was wrong, and here is the right answer”, learning skills, since being a librarian makes us lifelong learners, and technology skills with PCs, Tablets, eReaders, Web Applications, Online Public Access Catalogs, Microsoft Applications, etc. Furthermore, the applicant must have experience organizing, facilitating, and hosting continuing education or other events face-to-face or online through web hosting applications.
Travel is required.
MLS from an ALA accredited school is required; however, a bachelor’s degree plus library experience may also be considered. Salary is dependent upon education and experience. Minimum is $35,360 with generous benefits.
